Inside the blend: why every ingredient has a role

It is easy to talk about aromatherapy products through one familiar ingredient.

Rosemary for focus. Lavender for rest. Peppermint after activity.

Those associations can be useful, but they do not explain the complete blend.

Pepperfit products are built around combinations of essential oils chosen to work together. Each oil contributes something different to the purpose, aroma and overall character of the finished product.

In Boost, Rosemary and Lemongrass provide a fresh, purposeful centre. Green Mandarin adds brightness, Lavandin connects the sharper notes and Cedarwood gives the blend a steadier base.

In Rest, Lavender and Roman Chamomile bring softness, while Patchouli and Vetivert add depth. Geranium and Petitgrain stop the blend from becoming too heavy.

The same principle runs through all six Pepperfit blends.

More than one hero ingredient

We do not build a product around an ingredient simply because it is fashionable, familiar or easy to market.

The important question is how the complete combination works.

That includes:

• the recognised aromatherapy role of each essential oil
• how the oils support or balance one another
• the aroma of the finished blend
• the product format in which the blend will be used
• the practical routine the product is intended to fit into

A blend used before activity needs to feel different from one intended for a slower evening routine. A Roll-on also needs to work differently from a Body & Massage Oil or Wash.

The supporting formulation matters too. Carrier oils, Arnica, Vitamin E and other ingredients all affect how a product spreads, absorbs and feels during use.
